A Terrain Tamer Hilux ring and pinion set in 4.30 ratio, built for the Toyota Hilux 8″ differential. Terrain Tamer manufactures it to Toyota’s original specification, so it handles tough off-road terrain, heavy towing and everyday driving without compromise.
Every set is heat treated for strength and wear resistance, with precision cut teeth for quiet running. Built to OEM standards, it fits and drives like the factory gear set it replaces, at well under genuine Toyota pricing.
Fitting larger tyres raises your effective gearing, which makes the truck feel sluggish off the mark and puts the auto hunting between gears. Dropping to a numerically higher ratio brings it back. As a rough guide, going from standard tyres up to 33s usually calls for one step, and 35s two. If you run front and rear diffs on a four-wheel drive, both must be the same ratio.

A ratio change means the diff has to be stripped and set up again, so it is worth doing the wear items at the same time. You will need a bearing kit, and we recommend a solid pinion spacer in place of the collapsible crush sleeve on any diff that works hard. Fresh gear oil goes in on assembly.
