Redline Lightweight Shockproof Gear Oil is a high-protection, low-drag gear oil in an intermediate viscosity. It contains a suspension of solid microscopic particles that act as an extreme pressure agent. This works almost like a liquid grease. The formula delivers film thickness greater than an SAE 75W140 gear oil. Yet its friction stays as low as an 80W gear oil or 30W motor oil. Because of this balance, it’s often described as a “best of both worlds” gear lubricant.
This oil cuts the coefficient of friction by 40% compared with conventional gear oils. At the same time, it carries 250% more load than a standard gear oil. That combination helps prevent gear tooth breakage and resists throw-off under hard use. It also has excellent low-temperature flow, so cold shifting stays smooth even before the drivetrain warms up. Together, these properties make it well suited to gearboxes that see frequent, hard shifts.
Racers use this oil in differentials under moderate loads. It’s popular in racing transmissions such as Hewland and other road-racing dog-ring boxes. Bert and Brinn boxes for stock cars, and G-Force and Liberty clutchless boxes for drag racing, also run it well. It suits wet sump transmissions and differentials with splash lubrication. If you run it with a pump or cooler, use an inline screen rather than a fine filter. Avoid pumping it down the center of a mainshaft, since that can cause the particles to centrifuge out of solution.
This Quart size suits a single gearbox or differential fill. A Gallon size is also available for larger jobs or multiple fills. Not sure if Lightweight Shockproof suits your setup? Get in touch and we’ll help you choose. For the full technical data sheet, see Redline’s official product page.
