This Redline Lightweight ShockProof gear oil acts like a liquid grease rather than a standard gear oil. It carries a suspension of solid microscopic particles as its extreme-pressure agent. As a result, it delivers a genuine best-of-both-worlds balance: low drag alongside strong protection for gear teeth.
Despite its relatively low viscosity, this Redline Lightweight ShockProof gear oil cushions gear teeth under extreme pressure. As a result, it offers roughly 40% lower coefficient of friction than conventional gear oils, plus 250% of the load-carrying capacity. It still delivers film thickness greater than an SAE 75W140. Yet the fluid friction feels closer to an 80W gear oil or 30W motor oil. That combination helps prevent gear tooth breakage in setups that punish conventional gear oil.
Because of that low-drag characteristic, it suits racing differentials under moderate loads. It also works well in racing transmissions such as Hewland and other road-racing dog-ring boxes, Bert and Brinn stock car gearboxes, and G-Force or Liberty clutchless drag racing transmissions. On top of that, it flows well at low temperatures, so cold shifting improves too.
One thing to note: you can run this oil through pumps and coolers, but only with an inline screen rather than a fine filter, since the suspended particles can clog a fine filter. Also avoid pumping it down the centre of a main shaft, because the particles can centrifuge out of solution there. Following those two handling rules keeps the ShockProof particles suspended and working as intended.
This gallon size suits workshops doing multiple fills, or anyone topping up a larger gearbox or diff that runs a wet sump with splash lubrication.
