Redline Heavyweight Shockproof Gear Oil delivers film thickness greater than an SAE 75W250 gear oil. Yet it flows with the low friction of a 75W90. Red Line built it for heavily-loaded racing differentials, transmissions, and problem gearboxes that chew through conventional gear oil. It’s the most popular ShockProof product in the range, used across a wide range of racing and specialty applications. Even gearboxes that struggle to hold conventional oil under load tend to do well on it. Many racers switch to it specifically to solve a chronic gear failure problem.
This fully synthetic oil uses polyol ester base stocks for excellent lubrication under extreme conditions. Friction modifiers help it deliver proper limited-slip operation, so most owners don’t need to add extra friction modifier when topping up. A high viscosity index also keeps film thickness relatively constant as temperatures change. It also offers superior shear stability and reduced oxidation compared with other synthetics and conventional gear oils. All of this exceeds API GL-5 specifications for extra confidence under load. Better differential efficiency also translates into less wear and longer intervals between oil changes.
Racers run this oil in Sprint cars, Midgets, Dirt Late Models, and Quick Change differentials. It’s also popular in Detroit Lockers, spools, and NHRA Top Fuel and Funny Car rear ends. It holds up well in high-load off-road and rock-crawling differentials that see repeated shock loading, too. Because it’s extremely slippery, it’s not recommended for most synchro applications. Check your gearbox type before using it in a manual transmission, and ask us if you’re unsure.
This Gallon size suits teams running a full race season or refilling multiple differentials. A Quart size is also available for smaller top-ups. Not sure if Heavyweight Shockproof suits your setup?
