Redline 50WT Race Oil is a fully synthetic 15W50 racing motor oil. Red Line reformulated it for improved frictional properties, so it also delivers more power. Compared to a conventional oil of similar viscosity, that gain is typically 2 to 4%. Sprint and midget racers running on methanol favor this grade, since it suits engines with wider bearing clearances.
Methanol dilutes engine oil less than gasoline. As a result, 50WT typically needs less frequent oil changes in these applications than lighter race oil grades. Special detergents improve lubricity and reduce detonation, while polyol ester base stocks add stability and film strength under fuel dilution. Redline’s race oil lineup spans from a 5WT oil all the way up to a 70WT oil for nitro applications. A 50WT designation is Red Line’s way of labeling a 15W50 oil for racers who think in single-weight terms.
Redline 50WT Race Oil carries 2350 ppm of zinc and 2050 ppm of phosphorus for antiwear protection. As a result, it protects hard-working race engines at startup, when wear risk is highest. It also runs cooler and stays cleaner than conventional race oils. Its NOACK evaporation loss of just 6% at 250°C also means less oil burns off during a race. Because race conditions are so demanding, change this oil more often than a standard motor oil. Regular oil analysis can help you dial in the right change interval for your specific engine and event schedule.
This oil is also available in a Quart size for smaller top-ups or oil changes. Always check your engine builder’s recommendation before choosing a race oil viscosity.
