Red Line pioneered the performance manual transmission gear oil category with MTL. Redline MTL 75W80 GL-4 Gear Oil is a fully synthetic manual transmission fluid, not a differential oil. Unlike GL-5 oils, it contains no reactive sulfur compounds, so it’s safe on brass synchros. As a result, it delivers quicker, smoother shifts and eliminates notchy engagement, even in cold conditions.
This gear oil suits manual transmissions in BMW, Honda, Acura, Ford Focus, and late-model Mini Cooper models. It also works well in Land Rover LT77S, Mitsubishi, and Dodge/Jeep NV1500, NV3500, NV3550, and NV5600 truck gearboxes. Because it maintains the ideal synchronizer coefficient of friction, it also extends synchro life alongside strong gear protection. It’s excellent for both high-mile and low-mile transmissions, and it’s compatible with petroleum-based and other synthetic gear oils.
Redline MTL is also a popular replacement for GM Synchromesh, GM Auto-Trak II, and Chrysler spec MS-9224 factory fluids. It satisfies the gear oil viscosity requirements of 75W and 80W. It also covers motor oil viscosities of SAE 30, 10W30, and 5W30. As a result, it covers GL-1, GL-3, and GL-4 applications, including many original synchromesh-spec fluids.
Note: MTL is designed for synchromesh manual transmissions, and it is not suitable for differentials with hypoid gears. This fluid is also available in Gallon and 5-Gallon sizes for larger jobs or shop use. Redline also offers other viscosities in this range, including MT-85 and MT-90, for different synchro-friction requirements.
