This Redline 75W140NS gear oil is the “no-slip” version of Redline’s 75W140 GL-5 gear oil. The NS designation stands for No Slip. It’s Redline’s way of flagging that this version skips the friction-modifier package used in their standard LSD-friendly gear oils. It uses the same extreme-pressure protection, but leaves out the friction modifiers. That makes it the right choice for clutch-type limited-slip differentials in racing. There, you want maximum lock-up rather than a smoothed-out LSD feel. Racers who want to fine-tune slip can still add Redline’s Limited Slip Friction Modifier separately, in small doses.
Because it’s non-corrosive and safe with all synchro materials, this oil is also popular in historic and vintage synchro-equipped gearboxes. That includes 1930s–1950s transmissions and the notoriously noisy A-833 Dodge/Plymouth 4-speed. If you need to raise the viscosity in a noisy transmission, you can mix it with Redline’s 75W90NS or MT-90. Either way, the non-corrosive formula won’t attack yellow metals or brass synchro rings, unlike some conventional gear oils. It shares the same polyol ester base as the standard 75W140. As a result, it still delivers strong film strength and shear stability under sustained heat and load, even without the friction modifier package.
This gallon size suits workshops doing multiple fills, or anyone topping up a larger diff or gearbox that calls for a 75W140NS GL-5 gear oil. It also works out more cost-effective than buying individual quarts for repeat jobs.
