This Redline 75W90 gear oil is Redline’s most popular gear oil. It’s used in thousands of applications across passenger cars, light trucks, and racing vehicles. It uses a fully synthetic formula built from polyol ester and PAO base stocks. It also already includes friction modifiers suited to clutch-type limited-slip differentials. Most LSDs won’t need any extra additive on top. That built-in friction modifier package is one reason it’s become the default recommendation for daily-driven differentials with a factory limited-slip unit.
Because the ester/PAO base stock is so slippery, we don’t recommend it for manual transmissions or transaxles. That same slipperiness can cause synchro mesh issues and rough shifting instead. However, it exceeds API GL-5 specifications. As a result, you get better differential efficiency: better mileage, longer drain intervals, and less wear on the gears themselves. Better shear stability also means the oil holds its viscosity for longer under load. It doesn’t thin out and lose protection the way conventional gear oil can.
This oil also meets OEM specifications from Ford, GM, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Nissan, Subaru, and Mitsubishi. It also covers MIL-L-2105E and SAE J2360. So if your workshop manual calls for a 75W90 GL-5 gear oil, this fits the bill. Upgrading from conventional mineral oil? You’ll typically notice quieter operation and steadier shifting in hot weather. It also runs cooler than most conventional oils. Because of that, it’s a popular first upgrade for owners chasing a smoother-shifting daily driver.
Typical Properties:
This quart bottle suits a top-up or partial refill depending on your differential’s capacity. If your setup runs hotter or under heavier load, Redline’s 75W140 gear oil offers even stronger film strength. Get in touch if you’re not sure which Redline gear oil is right for your setup.
